Shortlist announced for award that recognises excellence in conservation at faith buildings. 

Every year we offer the learning opportunity of a lifetime to a group of committed young people who work protect and repair old buildings. The Scholarship and Fellowship are prestigious educational programmes that can kickstart a young person’s career in conservation and run from March to December each year. The Scholarship is open to surveyors, architects and engineers and the Fellowship to building craftspeople.

Stonemason Sean Henderson, carpenter and joiner Sam Matthams,  stonemason Luke O’Hanlon, and bricklayer Matthew Wilson, are the latest recruits to the SPAB's Fellowship - a unique educational scheme designed to nurture and develop the hands-on skills needed to care for old buildings.

The SPAB Scholarship is a prestigious training scheme for young building professionals to gain practical building repair skills from the some of the UK’s most experienced craftspeople. Surveyor Daniel Shemming and architects Christian Montez, Holly Spilsbury and Bethan Watson have embarked on a programme of site, workshop and studio visits across the country. 

Three architecture graduates have won the SPAB's the Philip Webb Award, for their separate schemes proving that with imagination and sensitivity you don’t need to demolish historic buildings.

A nine-month, hands-on learning experience aimed at craftspeople, architects, surveyors and engineers.

Showcasing the best in practical conservation, the two days (7-8 September) attracted building professionals, homeowners, enthusiasts and those interested in developing a career in the heritage sector.

With two months until its first major exhibition, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) has announced its full speaker line up for The Old House Show.

Taking place at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich over two days, Friday 7 to Saturday 8 September, The Old House Show is for homeowners, professionals, building enthusiasts and craft lovers – and is absolutely free.   

The Elizabethan manor house, Eastbury in Barking, is the destination for the 2018 SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) Working Party, an event that is part of the National-Lottery funded ‘We Love Eastbury: 100 Years of Protection and Preservation’ project.

Up to 70 conservation experts and volunteer heritage enthusiasts from all walks of life will descend on site for one week (Wednesday 11 July – Wednesday 18 July) to carry out vital maintenance and repair work to this important Tudor survivor.
