This year’s summer Working Party in Kent was one of our biggest ever. 98 volunteers, specialists and staff gathered to help repair our Old House Project, and neighbouring Boxley Abbey.
During the autumn the Old House Project (OHP) moved into its next major phase. With roof and chimney repairs complete, land cleared and a new entrance created, we have begun to implement the major works permitted by our main planning and listed building consents. These works have been overseen by our architects Mal Fryer and George Hodgson (both SPAB Scholars), supported by various consultants including structural engineer Ed Morton, sustainability adviser Paul Mallion of Kent based Conker Conservation, and mechanical and electrical services engineers PCS Consulting Services.
2022 SPAB Scholar Serena Gildea explores both successes and challenges facing historic buildings and traditional crafts across the island.
