Event details

The Chantry in Ilminster, Somerset is a Grade II* building undergoing a thorough and painstaking project of discovery and conservation. The 15th-century building largely hides within later Georgian extensions and remodelling.

During the project important elements of the earlier building have been uncovered and conserved with ingenious solutions found to a myriad of structural and repair dilemmas. The work has spanned over five years and is continuing with the owners working very closely with their professional team of structural engineer and archaeologist and especially their master craftsman.

Whilst SPAB visits are normally open to all members, on this occasion the owners are inviting members who are currently undertaking their own projects or are about to engage on them to visit. The invitation is extended to professionals and crafts people also working in this arena. It is intended that this should take the form of an open discussion on approach and a forum for exchanging experiences and advice whilst looking at an ongoing project.

SPAB members subscribing to the Dorset Group were invited to apply for a place on the visit.
