About the Session:

To launch the new SPAB Technical Advice Note: Slate and Stone Roofing in Wales and the Marches, one of the authors, Terry Hughes, will describe the vernacular roofing materials and techniques of the region. The Note is the third in a series of SPAB regional slating guides, following Slating in South-East England and Slating in the East Midlands. 

About the Speaker:

Terry Hughes, formerly technical manager at Penrhyn Quarry (Welsh Slate Ltd) was chairman of the European roofing slate technical committee for seventeen years and has represented the UK slating industry on other technical committees including the British Standard Code of Practice for Slating and Tiling since 1983. He has been a consultant to Historic England for 27 years and is chairman of the Stone Roofing Association and the English Stone Forum. He has researched and published extensively on slate & stone roofs, their regional variations and conservation.
