Join the SPAB Somerset Group for a special opportunity to explore the internal scaffold at All Saints’, Langport. The Churches Conservation Trust have erected this scaffold to allow close inspection of the late fifteenth-century carved timber ceiling, where delicate leaf and vinework carvings have recently begun to loosen and fall. This visit will give participants a unique close-up view of the decorative timberwork, and insight into how the conservation team are assessing and planning repairs.
This tour is suitable for members and non-members who are comfortable climbing a scaffold stairway. The scaffold is secure and accessed via steps rather than ladders, but a reasonable level of mobility is required. As the church is unheated and November can be cold, please wear warm layers and sturdy, flat shoes.
You will need
Warm clothing and sturdy flat shoes.
