Lecture 6: Improving Energy Efficiency in Traditional and Vernacular buildings

Lecture description:

This lecture will examine ways of improving the thermal performance of traditional and vernacular structures. All aspects of such buildings, including walls, floors, and roof spaces will be looked at. Case studies, including one from an A-listed vernacular Scottish building, will also be discussed. This lecture will be based around Historic Environment Scotland’s site-based research.

About the speaker:

Moses Jenkins

The lecture will be delivered by Dr Moses Jenkins, Senior Technical Officer at Historic Environment Scotland. He has worked in the role for 16 years, with a significant focus on energy efficiency and Scottish brickwork. He has written several guides and case study papers on retrofit of traditional brickwork and is a conservation accredited member of the CIOB.

About SPAB Ireland

SPAB Ireland was established in 2017 as the inaugural Irish branch of the SPAB. Following the return of several recent Irish SPAB Fellows and Scholars to live and work in Ireland, the lack of an SPAB presence has been acutely felt. After a successful open meeting in February 2017, we have established a committee and have started planning how we will bring the SPAB philosophy and ethos to Ireland.
