Our SPAB Ireland Lecture Series 2023 focuses on sustainability and adaptive reuse of existing vacant buildings. This lecture will focus on the Thermal Upgrading of our Traditional Buildings in the context of sustainability and adaptive reuse.
About the lecturer
Dr Rosanne Walker completed her undergraduate degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in Trinity College Dublin in 2004. Over the following years she worked in architectural practices in building conservation. She returned to the Engineering Department in Trinity in 2009 and undertook a PHD on hemp-lime concrete. Since then she has worked part-time providing conservation consultancy for historic buildings including NIAH surveys, built heritage impact assessment reports and advice on the thermal upgrading of historic buildings. She also works part time in research. She has undertaken research funded by SEAI on air-leakage from traditional buildings and research funded by IRCSET on internal insulation of solid walls. She is currently working as part of a research team in UCD called FabTrads which is investigating the hygrothermal properties of traditional building materials to assist in their thermal upgrading.
