Join the Yorkshire Group for a great summer outing to Rievaulx Abbey, once one of England's most important Cistercian monasteries.

We’ll have group tours of the site, including an exclusive visit to the Refectory Repair Project, with masonry contractors HPR. We’ll also get to climb up the scaffolds to have a look at the work in progress! 

After the tour, people are free to stay on at Rievaulx and use the café facilities, or picnic on the grounds.

You will need 

Essential PPE will be provided, but people are welcome to bring their own if they have it. 

Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for accessing the scaffolding. 

How to get there

Meet at Rievaulx car park for an 11am start. 

By car, Rievaulx is 2 1⁄4 miles north of Helmsley, on minor road off B1257.

By bus, the nearest location is Helmsley (approx. 2 mile walk) served by Stephenson’s 29, 31, 31X, 194, 195; Scarborough & District 128.

Accessibility

This visit will involve significant periods of standing and walking. There may be some uneven surfaces. Level ground on established roads and lanes, though not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

We will also be climbing scaffolding, which may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or fear of heights. Let us know before booking if you have any concerns.
