Join the SPAB Gloucester Group for a visit to Doughton Manor, a Grade-1 listed building with a commanding presence – privately owned and not normally open to the public.

Many who have travelled on the A433 south of Tetbury will have seen and admired Doughton Manor, a Grade I listed building with a commanding presence opposite Highgrove. We have been invited to visit the property by kind invitation of the owners and James Mackintosh Architects.

The land was leased by a Tetbury burgher in 1567 and it is thought possible that the house was in existence by the late 16th century. The house changed hands several times until 1930 when it was bought by Frank Mitchell who employed Norman Jewson to repair the house. Jewson was a prominent Cotswold architect known for his craftsmanship.

Recently purchased by an undisclosed buyer they have engaged James Mackintosh Architects to work on the building to create a home without becoming bankrupt in the process. An intimidating task for anyone. Our guide for the event is James Mackintosh, the architect of the project who will explain their work on the house.

The architects have an excellent article on the property on their website:
