Event details

Saturday 26 September, 9.00am

Join the Essex & Suffolk Group for the opportunity to look around five listed private timber framed houses, not normally open to the public, and the grade one listed Church of St Mary the Virgin.

We will meet in the Little Baddow History Centre where we will be given a talk by Mel Thompson, a local historian, about the village of Little Baddow.

We will then split into three groups and ask you to make your own way between the three morning venues. These are Little Baddow Hall, Cuckoos and the Church of St Mary the Virgin.

We will return to the History Centre at around 12:30 for lunch (bring your own packed lunch) where there will be more time to look around the History Centre and the co located United Reform Church chapel.

After lunch we will drive approximately 10 minutes to the afternoon’s eastern group of three houses comprising Pilgrims, Coleraines and Poleighs where again we will split into three groups.

You will be shown around the houses by their owners and the church by someone from the local history society, they will be pleased to answer any of your questions

///symphony.breathing.zoned

The History Centre only has very limited parking, but the church has ample parking and is only a 4 minute walk away. Therefore, if possible, please park in the church carpark which is in a field opposite the church. (Sat Nav - St Mary’s Church Church Road, Little Baddow, Essex, CM3 4BE , use the full name not just the post code or ///misted.scatters.intricate and see attached map).

It is then an easy walk along a foot path to rejoin Church Road just before the turning into Chapel Lane for the History Centre. It is recommended to walk along the foot path rather than walking around the narrow road which has a blind bend

Accessibility

Walking is the only practicable option getting between the houses, none of which have parking. The roads are typical narrow Essex country lanes, often without pavements. Beware of cars and cycling groups.
