About the Session:

Jonathan will do a quick run through of the background to Townscape Heritage schemes; their intended outcomes; and their key stages. The focus will then be on the delivery stage and the role of the Townscape Heritage Officer in ensuring that repair and reinstatement works are implemented in accordance with best practice, using appropriate traditional materials, by competent conservation contractors. Community engagement programmes accompany capital works schemes and their contribution towards building an appreciation of old buildings and an understanding of appropriate repair and maintenance of them will be outlined.

About the Speaker:

Jonathan is Townscape Heritage Officer at West Lindsey District Council, delivering the National Lottery backed Historic Heart of Gainsborough Townscape Heritage Initiative. He is a consultant on Townscape Heritage to Mansfield District Council. After earlier careers in international telecommunications and finance, he changed direction after renovation of semi-derelict houses in Conservation Areas crystalised an interest in historic buildings. He completed an MSt in Building History at Cambridge University, and now lectures on Townscape Heritage to students there. In his spare time he chips off Portland cement screed, render and floor slab in a semi-derelict listed house in Oundle, East Northants.
