Wind and Water - A sprinkling of Mills for NMW 2025
Share on:
On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May, lots of wind and watermills across the UK will open to the public. Many are run by amazing volunteers so you may need to hunt for 'Mills near me' to get the latest information.
But, since the two Mills operated by SPAB are now fully booked! We thought we'd highlight a few sprinkled across the country.
Polegate Windmill, Sussex
A lovely working windmill built in 1817 and now operated by a volunteer trust.
Open Sunday 11.
Houghton Mill, Cambridgeshire
A working 18th century watermill operated by the National Trust.
Prebooking is needed for full tours but the grounds are open.
Barry Mill, Angus
A working watermill operated by the National Trust for Scotland. The Barry Burn has had a mill since at least 1539.
Open Thursday to Sunday
Lytham Windmill, Lancashire
A windmill site since 1805, this active, volunteer-run mill is a strong part of the local community today.
Open Saturday 10 and Sunday 11
