Event details
Wednesday 21 May, 2.30pm
Join the Yorkshire group on a visit to Ripon Cathedral for a tour with the assistant cathedral architect to find out more about the recent repair and conservation projects the Cathedral has been undertaking.
Oliver Caroe have been Cathedral architects since 2010 and have led a number of projects, including early designs and heritage consultant for Ripon Cathedral Renewed, external masonry repairs, new gargoyles, conserving the medieval choir stalls and gaining planning permission for solar panels on the roof.
We will meet Alanah Honey, senior architect at Oliver Caroe, who will walk the group around the cathedral, discussing the work overseen by the cathedral architect. Works include the design and installation of a major new narthex porch, scheduling and specifying a programme of phased stonework repairs, delivering the quinquennial inspection, and a long-term masterplan.
The visit will also include a tour of the roof, giving a unique perspective of the building and accessing areas of conservation work not normally accessed by the public.
For those wanting to extend their visit, Choral Evensong is at 5.30pm in the Cathedral and we'll then move on to the Hornblower Tavern in the Market Place.

Accessibility
Most of the cathedral and churchyard is level access, with very short ramps at main doors. The crypt is down a narrow spiral staircase, the recent project in the chapel is down another short stair and the roof tour is up a couple of storeys up a narrow spiral stair which requires a reasonable level of fitness.
There is a virtual tour for those unable to access the crypt and photos and descriptions can be provided for the roof if desired.
