Event details

Friday 28 April 2023, 9.30 am to 3.30 pm

Join our SPAB Sussex Group for a training day at the Mint House in Pevensey. The day will be led by David and Barbara Martin, together with a local historian and archaeologist who are advising a very active Friends Group about this interesting Tudor building.

The Mint House has recently been upgraded to 2* and added to the Heritage at Risk Register in recognition of its significance in historic Pevensey. This is good opportunity to hear about its possible purpose, construction and proposals for its purchase and repair by the Friends of the Mint.

We will hear about the importance of Pevensey at that time, building types and their construction up to C 1600, and then question the purpose of the Mint. We will tour the building with the Martins, who are acknowledged experts in timber-framed buildings. Other specialists will talk and tour as well.

This promises to be a very informative and enjoyable day. The event fee includes refreshments and a buffet lunch.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Sussex Regional Group
The Group is run by a committee of five, with Simon Clark as main organiser and Ashley Brown, Alan Keen, Bob Overton-Hart and David Wyatt all also organising events and performing various roles. The current committee has by and large served since 2014, and all live in Sussex but liberally spread across both West and East.
