Following a successful legal challenge by the SPAB, Broxtowe Council has agreed that listed building consent for an insensitive redevelopment scheme to Willoughby Almshouses was invalid. We now await final confirmation from the courts that this unlawful listed building consent has been withdrawn.
First-year Interior Design students have been tasked with reimagining parts of 37 Spital Square, incorporating SPAB’s ethos and history into their designs.
The SPAB has a vacancy for a voluntary trustee. We are keen to hear from a SPAB member or supporter who could bring fresh skills and experience to the Board. Particularly welcome would be interest from candidates at an early point in their career or who feel they can offer something different in terms of their background or experience.
Equally relevant to the vacancy could be specialist skills in fields such as marketing or fundraising, or a connection with an area where the SPAB is keen to increase its influence, beyond the South East of England.

A 16th-century cottage we helped to save has won an award from the Nottinghamshire Buildings Preservation Trust.
In 2019 we held a Working Party to carry out urgent repairs to Auld Cottage, a modest timber-framed building in Norwell, Nottinghamshire. Auld Cottage had been unoccupied since the 1960s, and locals including SPAB Scholar (1997) Jane Holt and the Norwell Parish Heritage Group were deeply concerned about its rapidly deteriorating condition.

What a night! We were delighted to welcome over 230 people to our very first SPAB Heritage Awards ceremony at Conway Hall in London.
Three great projects are up for our Philip Webb Award, which recognises schemes that sympathetically revitalise a historic building.
Overall, we support the proposals to alter this wonderful late 15th-century house, now a local museum, but have suggested improvements.
