Kent & Surrey Group Visit to Yonsea Model Farm and Great Morghew Park

Saturday 4 May, 10.30am - 5pm

Join the Kent & Surrey group to explore the role of traditional crafts in rebuilding historic buildings. This visit should be particularly interesting for building conservation professionals and students.

We’ll start the day with a tour of the Yonsea Model Farm Buildings (1816-1819), which were rescued from the path of High Speed Rail (HS1) and relocated to Dolmen Conservation’s Woodyard, Woodchurch. 

Together we’ll explore the philosophical issues of the relocation of the Yonsea farm buildings, the importance of archaeological recording, and how rebuild projects like this can be used to encourage traditional crafts.

The cost of the visit does not include any refreshments or lunch, but these are available for members to purchase if they wish from the Rare Breeds Centre or in Tenterden.

After lunch, we’ll be guided around the building of a new medieval and Tudor-inspired Hall House by the master craftsman designer, Peter Massey of Dolmen Conservation, and his team. The building will eventually be used as a large shooting lodge and we are privileged to have access to this private estate.

You will need 

Access to the afternoon visit is via a rough and muddy farm track, so remember to drive carefully.

Please wear sturdy footwear.

Both sites are in the countryside and the afternoon visit is to a building site with uneven ground.
