Wednesday 6 December, 2 - 4pm
Join us on a visit to Fairburn Tower to see how the Landmark Trust has been able to bring this beautiful tower-house back to life. SPAB Scotland previously visited when works were underway, so this is an exciting chance to see the completed project and admire the views from the top of the tower!
Fairburn Tower is a rare survival from the Scottish Renaissance. Situated in the stunning Highland landscape, half an hour’s drive north-west of Inverness, Fairburn Tower was built around 1545 for Murdo Mackenzie, a favourite at the rich court of King James V and Mary of Guise.
Our host will be Linda Lockett, SPAB Scholar and Regional Architect for the Landmark Trust. Linda oversaw the conservation project and is now making a final visit at the end of the defects period. She will be joined by SPAB Guardian and Scotland committee member, Caroline Webster.
Tickets are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. Sales close at 12 noon on 5 December 2023
Before purchasing a ticket, please check your transport options to make sure you are able to get to the venue in good time. It is remote, there is no public transport and you will need your own car or bike. The nearest train station is Muir of Ord, and the tower is approximately 3 miles down a track. Directions to the tower will be sent by email prior to the event.
Please be aware that contractors will be working on-site, and some rooms will be covered with dust sheets. Please wear suitable footwear for a site visit. Hard hats and high viz vests will be provided if needed.
Anything we can do to make this visit more accessible to you? Please email email@example.com before booking.
