An opportunity to see the restoration of the Smythe Barn at Westenhanger by the Forge family and the construction of a new Tudor kitchen on the manor house by John Forge

Thursday 30 June from 2 to 4pm

This is an opportunity to see the restoration of the Smythe Barn at Westenhanger by the Forge family and the construction of a new Tudor kitchen on the manor house by John Forge. We shall hear from Purcell who are consultants to the new owners, Folkestone and Hythe District Council. Our group will be addressed by Elizabeth Smith, Senior Conservation Architect at Purcell and the Project Architect for the Barns, Jennifer Bennell.

We shall discover how the wider site of the former fortified manor is being integrated into the masterplan for the new proposed garden town to be known as Otterpool Park with its attendant archaeological and heritage interpretation.

There will be a charge of £6 per head which includes tea and cakes.

There is ample car parking on the site.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Kent and Surrey Regional Group
The group has run continuously since its foundation in 1994. We aim to hold around 10 to 12 events a year catering for a wide range of interest. Events include visits to buildings undergoing conservation and repair projects to allow members to see conservation in action, buildings and landscapes of historical and architectural interest, and visits to some of south east England’s most significant buildings including behind the scenes tours of Cathedrals, Royal Palaces and major military fortifications.
