Event details

Friday 3 July, 4pm

Join SPAB Sussex for a talk by architect, author and Westminster Abbey Surveyor of the Fabric, Ptolemy Dean.

Drawing on his new book Streetscapes: Navigating Historic English Towns, Ptolemy will explore the character and evolution of England's historic towns and the way we experience the spaces between buildings. Referencing places including Chichester, one of the towns featured in the book, he will revisit the tradition of townscape analysis associated with writers such as Gordon Cullen and Alec Clifton-Taylor and consider its continuing relevance today.

This event will appeal to anyone with an interest in historic towns and places, including conservation officers, architects, heritage professionals and members of the public. There will be an opportunity to hear directly from one of the country's leading conservation architects and to deepen your understanding of the historic urban environment.

The talk is expected to finish at approximately 6pm. We are grateful to Lewes Town Council for hosting this event.
