Event details
Mapping the Middle Ages takes you behind the scenes of historic map-making with two leading experts. Professor Caroline Barron, author of the Maps of Medieval and Tudor London, and Dr David Harrison, creator of the first Road Map of England and Wales in the Late Middle Ages, will explain how they researched, designed and produced their work.
They will explore what these maps reveal about London’s buildings, streets and lost landscapes, including the impact of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the Great Fire of 1666, Victorian redevelopment and wartime bombing. David will also discuss how SPAB’s historic research into medieval bridges informed his work.
This illustrated talk is ideal for anyone interested in historic buildings, London’s past, or how complex historical information can be transformed into clear, engaging maps. There will be time for questions at the end.
