Event details

Regretfully we have made the decision to cancel this event due to the coronavirus crisis. We do hope to be able to offer it at a later date. We will be emailing everyone registered for the event with more information.

In the meantime, SPAB continues our education and campaigining work. Our technical line will remain open and we will continue to be here to protect old buildings and support those who care for them.

Friday 24 April, 10.15 am for a 10.30 start

Whittington Court is a small privately owned Tudor manor house (believed to be on the site of a much earlier Manor) with Jacobean and later additions.  On arrival at 10.15 am there will be coffee and cakes, followed by an introductory talk.  We will be given the opportunity to see most of the main rooms with their historic contents,  including the dining hall and the library.  The top floor is a working textile studio belonging to the house’s owner, Jenny Stringer.

There will be ample time to enjoy the gardens and see the Tithe Barn (Grade II* - 1614), the stables (Grade II*) and St Bartholomew’s Church (12th century). The house only opens occasionally, and there will be other members of the public also viewing the house on this day.

Please make your own arrangements for lunch

Meet again at 2.30pm at Ellenborough Park Hotel,  Southam Lane, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire  GL52 3NJ

This extensive 5* historic hotel has undergone extensive recent conservation work and we will be taken around the building and grounds by a member of staff, who is an architectural historian. Patrick McIlroy will also be with us and he has offered to talk about the development of the buildings and some of the ongoing and extensive conservation work that has been undertaken over the past few years.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Gloucestershire Regional Group
Lynne Pardoe, Group Organiser, says "It was ten years ago when I came to live in Gloucestershire and, surprised by the absence of a SPAB group, I started one. Since then its gone from strength to strength, with a steady core of regular attenders and an ever changing background of newer members. Since I don’t work in the field of conservation I rely on suggestions to arrange visits which don’t usually open for the public and thankfully, because I’ve been running it so long people know me and will make suggestions, or offer up their own properties for a visit. I love this."
