Event details

Thursday 26 May, 10.10 am

By invitation of Rufus Knight-Webb a visit has been arranged to his recently restored home,  Weston, West Lulworth.

Weston is a Grade II Lutyens designed house in a dramatic setting high on the cliffs above Lulworth Cove.  Thought to be the only Lutyens house in Dorset, it is imaginatively designed to take advantage of the natural hillside.

This will be followed in the afternoon with a walk around the village led by Conservation Consultant, Peter Brachi.

The core of the village is half a mile inland from the Cove, in a deep gully sheltered from the sea but its development differs from that of the traditional fishing village.  Our walk will begin with a look at the local landscape and geology and the origins of the materials with which the buildings are constructed.   We will consider how this affects the form of the older buildings in the village and consider some of the dilemmas associated with their conservation.

Light refreshments will be available at Weston and there are many choices for meals in the village as well as scenic sites to enjoy a picnic.

The cost for this visit will be £5 per person. Please register in advance and bring cash with you to pay on the day. All attendees must be registered so that we know how many people to expect.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.
