Event details

Due to the latest advice from the government on social gatherings this event has now been postponed. We'll let those who have already registered know as soon as we have a new date.

In the meantime, SPAB continues our education and campaigining work. Our technical line will remain open and we will continue to be here to protect old buildings and support those who care for them.

Saturday 9 May,  11.am.

Pentney Augustinian Priory dates back to the 12th century. Only the gatehouse survives from the late 14th century, although there are later buildings on site including a farmhouse and barn built from salvaged materials. In 2012/13  the gatehouse was the subject of an Historic England funded conservation programme and conversion from a virtual ruin to a usable structure. It is currently used as a wedding venue.

The gatehouse was constructed using a variety of materials including locally sourced rubble flint,  ashlar Barnack limestone dressings, and clunch. Local carstone is also used throughout the building as infill and repair. The c16 chimneystacks on the east and west elevation were constructed of red brick.  The roof structure was constructed in 2012-13, and comprises a new oak frame with a lead covering, and plain glass was introduced to all windows.

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Fenland & Wash Regional Group
The group was set up by a number of enthusiastic members in 2003 to promote SPAB philosophy amongst homeowners and those who work on old buildings. Our area loosely covers Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire, although some events are outside this area.
