Meet at St Laurence-in-Thanet Church, High St, St Lawrence, Ramsgate CT11 0QT

This day long visit to Ramsgate begins at the medieval St Laurence-in-Thanet Church. We will then visit St George the Martyr, 0.7 miles away, which is on Historic England’s Buildings at Risk Register. Ther regeneration project, which is about to start, will be part reordering and part conservation repair of the 1827 building. Finally, we will go to St Augustine’s, Pugin’s building, a further 1.1 miles away.

Please note that there is some physicality involved in climbing the 100 steps to St George’s corona from where there is a fine view of the town; members may wish to view from the clock chamber or bell chamber.

There is on street parking and limited on site parking at St George’s. Numbers are limited to 20.

Further information on the buildings is to be found in https://issuu.com/ramsgaterecorder/docs/rr_16_spring_web/12;   https://www.augustine-pugin.org.uk/ and St Laurence in Thanet  https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1336662

Multiple bookings
As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Kent and Surrey Regional Group
The group has run continuously since its foundation in 1994. We aim to hold around 10 to 12 events a year catering for a wide range of interest. Events include visits to buildings undergoing conservation and repair projects to allow members to see conservation in action, buildings and landscapes of historical and architectural interest, and visits to some of south east England’s most significant buildings including behind the scenes tours of Cathedrals, Royal Palaces and major military fortifications.
