Event details

26 January 2020, 10.30-13.30

The day will start at the William Morris Gallery, with a tour with particular focus on Morris’s architectural interests. The Gallery is a Grade II* listed, mid-eighteenth century house. It was the childhood home of William Morris and now houses a permanent collection including the world's largest collection of Morris's work. There will also be time to go round the Bauhaus exhibition which closes that weekend: https://www.wmgallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions-43/pioneers.

This will be followed by a short walk to the Vestry House Museum. Built in 1730 and extended in 1756, the Grade II listed building incorporates earlier features, including seventeenth century panelling and a mantle piece brought from Essex Hall. The building now houses Walthamstow's local history museum and archives. There will also be time to explore the gardens.

We will meet at the William Morris Gallery where we will split into two groups. One group will start with the guided tour of the building, whilst the other group explores the Bauhaus exhibition, the modern extension housing the Gallery's cafe and the gardens. The groups will then swap, before heading to the Vestry House Museum.

Following the tours we will go to a nearby pub for lunch. Please make sure you let us know if you will be joining us when you purchase your ticket so we can reserve a table, and let us know any dietary requirements. Food is not included in the event ticket price.

Bookings for this event are being taken via eventbrite.
