Dorset Group visit to Corfe Castle
£5 SPAB members
£10 Non members
Event details
Friday 13 June, 2.30 – 4.30pm
Join the Dorset Group for a visit to Corfe Castle. We’ll get a chance to see work underway as part of a three-year project to survey its condition and carry out repairs to the ruins.
As a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade 1 listed building, the castle holds international historical significance, and National Trust has a legal responsibility to preserve it. They take a conservation and preservation approach to the works - minimising disturbance to the historical fabric of the castle but doing enough to conserve its current state from further deterioration.
Sam Wheeler of Philip Hughes Associates will show us the work they are carrying out at Corfe Castle. Previous mortar repairs will be of particular interest and there will be a chance to go on the scaffolding to get close to the work.
There is no entrance fee to be paid on this visit - but please flash your NT card if you have one, as Corfe Castle receive an allocation for every NT member visit.
