Giles took over at Athelhampton as owner and as one of the team that welcomes visitors to its wonderful house and gardens in 2019, after several decades as an economist at the University of London and in the City, crunching numbers and visiting people around the world to feed into the analytical reports he wrote on international economics, politics and markets.
 
In recent years he has spent a lot of time doing research into the extraordinary history of the house and its occupants, based on which he has written two novels set there in the Tudor era, and contributed to the guide books, videos and display boards that help explain its history and architecture to visitors. He was excited to discover that Thomas Hardy, an early SPAB member, had a long and close association with Athelhampton and is delighted to continue that tradition.
 

In this skillshare, Giles will give an owner's view of the refurbishment of the Elizabethan Kitchen at Athelhampton and the achievement of net zero energy emissions.
