About the Session:

This talk will reflect on the two recent articles published in the SPAB Mill News reflecting on the Wind Report and Storm Report. Steve Temple will explain the system for evaluating wind loss at windmills due to the presence of trees and houses round the mill, highlighting the system’s ability to assess total wind availability and the potential impact of new proposed developments. Steve will then talk about the impact of storms on windmills, and describe made estimates of the wind forces that have caused damage to several mills this year. He will then offer advice on securing mills when high winds are forecast. This talk will be of interest to mill owners, millwrights, architects and planners.

About the Speaker:

Stephen Temple

I'm an inventor and engineer and worked for many years for Cambridge Consultants before helping to start Xaar PLC, a company making Industrial Ink Jet print heads based on a series of my inventions.  I bought Impington Mill in 1999 and have been restoring it since then almost exclusively with volunteer assistance.  I am very interested in millwrighting and in trying to ensure continuity of the millwrighting heritage.  I am a SPAB Guardian and committee member of the Mills Section.
