Walking Tour

We will meet at 1.30pm outside the Kelham Island Museum, to walk the ‘Furnace Trail’ of Kelham Island which will focus on the metal trades and early steel making, and we will see examples of cementation furnace, crucible furnaces, and a Bessimer Converter along the way as well as associated factories and cutlery works.

We will finish the walk at the Bower Springs Cementation Furnace, a scheduled monument which the SPAB group have been helping save with the local Sheffield Historic Buildings Trust.

The day will end with a Historic pub crawl for those who wish to stay and chat, including visits to The Shakespeare and Fat Cat!

Committee Meeting

The quarterly committee meeting will be held in the morning at Power Lab, Kelham Island Museum from 10.30am-12pm. Please email Lucy Newport at spabyorkshire@gmail.com if you intend to join the meeting.

There will be a chance to have a look around the free museum or have some lunch before the wider group meets for a walking tour in the afternoon.

When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.
