The SPAB Bucks, Berks, & Oxon Group are pleased to offer this visit to Shotover Park, kindly hosted by Alexander and Camilla Stanier.

Our tour will focus on the energy efficiency measures that have been introduced at the estate, including a new heat exchange system using the lake, and learn about proposed future upgrades.

Draft programme for the day is as follows:

Gather 10.15 for 10.30am start. Parking by house - directions available on booking

10.30 coffee, tea, cakes on arrival. Introduction to Shotover from Alexander Stanier- family background, history, house refurbishment including heating upgrades.

11am chance to look round principal rooms on ground floor. Note heavy drapes and shutters which are effective against draft and heat loss. Note radiators and effective low-level heating of thermal mass.

11.30 Guided visit in 2 or 3 groups via servant’s hall to basement to inspect new plant room with heat exchange from lake.

12 noon Guided visit to stables to look at energy-efficient upgrades achieved, further works under discussion and location of ground source heat pump infrastructure

Please note that participants will need to wear suitable footwear - no high heels or other shoes that could scratch floors. If the weather is wet you may be asked to remove your footwear on entry to the house - you may want to bring an alternative pair of shoes to wear indoors.

NB: No photography allowed at this visit for security reasons.

About the Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and Oxfordshire Regional Group

The BBO group organises seminars, talks and visits to buildings of interest, trying where possible to add value by arranging access to places not normally open to the public. We also visit buildings undergoing repair so members can see the work in progress and discuss with artisans and conservators their techniques, approach and materials.
