The Park Estate in Nottingham is a private residential housing estate next to the castle. It is noted for its Victorian architecture. The estate uses gas street lighting, one of the largest networks in Europe.
The estate was originally the deer park to Nottingham Castle. The Dukes of Newcastle bought the ruined castle and park in 1663. Houses were built in the park from 1829. 355 houses had been built by 1918.
The tour will be led by a member of the Nottingham Civic Society. The walk will last 1.5-2 hours. It will involve some steps. We will look at the history of the Park, some of the larger houses, The Park Tunnel and Park Steps.
After the walk we will have a 2 course lunch at Fothergills, opposite the Castle. Menu can be found at https://www.fothergillsnottingham.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Restaurant-Lunch-Menu-2022-WEB.pdf.
The castle has undergone a £30 million restoration. If you would like to visit in the afternoon, tickets are available at https://www.nottinghamcastle.org.uk/plan-your-visit/tickets/.

About the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regional Groups
The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Group is a mix of professionals and interested amateurs, some of whom joined the SPAB when they became owners of old houses, large and small. This means that a wide range of backgrounds is represented and we are pleased to see younger members participating. All share the common thread of wanting to support the work of raising awareness of our building heritage within a wider audience while extending their own knowledge and skills.
Accessibility: please contact the Group Organiser before booking to discuss any special access requirements.
