After a great deal of thought, much discussion and the commissioning of a range of reports, SPAB’s Board has reached the difficult decision to sell Fladbury Mill in Worcestershire.
The Mill was a generous bequest from member David Wynn who died in 2021. His legacy included the Mill, its contents and a cash sum. Fladbury lies on the river Avon near Evesham and includes a mill house, a self-contained flat, and a water mill with reinstated traditional wheel and electricity generating turbine.
For SPAB to carry out its core activities as a charity, the Mill needed to be financially self-supporting and the Board has reluctantly concluded that it cannot see a way to make the long-term custodianship of Fladbury Mill financially viable for the Society and believes that the Mill would be better in the hands of a private owner.
We hope to find a purchaser who is sympathetic to the mill and SPAB’s ethos.
