We are delighted to announce our 2022 SPAB Scholars and Fellows. Every year a group of craftspeople, architects, surveyors and engineers are selected for our prestigious training schemes. Over six to nine months they will gain hands-on experience of building conservation, travelling across the country to learn from building specialists and craftspeople working in traditional ways.

Former SPAB Scholars and Fellows are among the today’s leading UK conservation experts, caring for many of the most significant buildings in the UK and abroad.

Our 2022 Scholars are: Serena Gildea, an engineer from Belfast; Katie Hood, an engineer from Edinburgh; Jacob Long, an architectural assistant from Bristol; Sinéad Scullion, architect from Dublin.

Our 2022 Fellows are: Owen Bushell, shingle maker and signwriter from Norfolk; David McFerran carpenter/joiner from Co. Down; Daahir Mohamed plasterer from Bristol; Steve Hogarth joiner/rope access technician from Derbyshire.

The talented group will begin their programme of site and workshop visits across the UK on 21 March.

We would be grateful to hear of any building conservation projects on site between April - September 2022 that may be interesting for our Scholars and Fellows to visit. Please email Pip Soodeen & Catharine Bull with any suggestions, or if you would be happy to host them: philippa.soodeen@spab.org.ukcatharine.bull@spab.org.uk
