Windmill

The tallest smock mill in England. This 7-storey windmill was built in 1814 and worked commercially until 1957. Dutch millwrights restored the mill in 1960, followed by major repairs by millwrights IJP in 2003. Milling takes place on open days, wind permitting. Owned by the Kent County Council and operated by Cranbrook Windmill Association. Free admission, donations welcome.

Opening Times:

14.30-17.00 on Saturdays from Easter to the end of September, and Sundays on 2nd weekend in May (National Mills Weekend), mid-July to end of August, plus Easter Monday, the two May bank holidays and August bank holiday. In addition, a conducted tour on Wednesday afternoons in late July and in August, at 2.30pm (a complete calendar of open days is on their web site).
