Cragside was the revolutionary home of Lord Armstrong, the Victorian inventor. His house was the first to be lit by hydro-electricity, generated from a power house in which the original 1886 turbine plant can be viewed. There is also a small overshot waterwheel moved from elsewhere on the estate. The water falls 340 ft from artificial lakes he created. In the house is a passenger lift....
