Women in conservation

For International Women’s Day, the SPAB celebrates some of the fantastic and inspirational women working in building conservation, from architects and surveyors to stonemasons and conservators. Rachel Morley talks about her unconventional route into conservation - she studied process and chemical engineering. Jane Kennedy, senior partner at Purcell, remembers what got her interested in old buildings. Sam Peacock, a stonemason and stained glass conservator, gives her advice to anyone thinking about becoming a craftsperson. Gillian Darley, writer, broadcaster and SPAB trustee, discusses one of her favourite buildings. Building surveyor, Hannah Sedgwick talks about her work at the Old Admiralty Building in London. SPAB caseworker, Joanne Needham's advice to anyone wanting to work with old buildings is to find a group of people who share your passion. Heather Newton, head of conservation at Canterbury Cathedral, describes a day in her work life.
