The SPAB Approach to Contemporary Architecture in Historic Contexts. A one day conference exploring examples of good new design for historic buildings.

20 March 2018, 10am-5pm

Join the SPAB for an exciting one day conference exploring examples of good new design for historic buildings.

Chaired by Mark Hines, this conference is a celebration of good new design for old buildings, whether domestic, commercial, religious or agricultural. The SPAB Approach is that sympathetic but imaginative new architecture can complement the old, and is an important factor in the conservation of historic buildings as well as the sustainability of the built environment into the future.

The programme will draw on themes and examples featured in Roger Hunt and Iain Boyd’s new book, New Design for Old Buildings, which will be available at a discount for all delegates. Presentations will explore the different approaches taken by architects dealing with a range of historic buildings, and the different solutions available which allow old and new to work together harmoniously. This is an unmissable opportunity to question and discuss cutting edge projects with the experts who designed them.

This is an essential event for anyone in the architectural community - both established practitioners and students - and will also be interesting to anyone responsible for the care of old buildings who may be seeking to undertake development or extension projects.
