Friday 26 September 11am
Join the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Group on a visit to Goadby Marwood. Step into the heart of rural Leicestershire and explore the beautiful ironstone village of Goadby Marwood with a guided tour through centuries of history. Along the route you will hear captivating tales of the Manor House, once home to prisoners of war; The Old Rectory, where the English inventor Edmund Cartwright lived; the Grade II listed village hall, the heart of the community for over 160 years; the Grade I listed 13th-century St Denys Church, a striking medieval landmark; and the elegant 17th-century Grade II* listed Goadby Hall, formerly owned by the Dukes of Rutland. After the walk, gather in the historic village hall to enjoy a delicious two course meal, beginning with a traditional ploughman’s lunch followed by your choice of tempting desserts served with teas and coffee.
