Event details

William Morris Walk from Hammersmith to Chiswick
Wednesday 10 June, 6.15pm

Join SPAB Chair Duncan McCallum for an evening walk from Hammersmith to Chiswick exploring places associated with William Morris.

Beginning at the northern end of Hammersmith Bridge, this guided riverside walk will follow the Thames through Hammersmith and Chiswick, passing historic houses and hearing about the many notable figures connected with the area. Along the way, attendees will enjoy a short visit to Kelmscott House, Morris’s home during the final years of his life and now headquarters of the William Morris Society.

The route continues past Chiswick’s old ferry landing and through the historic village centre, including Hogarth’s House, which SPAB helped to save. The evening concludes at The Tabard, Richard Norman Shaw’s celebrated Grade II* listed public house of 1880 at Bedford Park, close to Turnham Green Underground station.

The walk is approximately 2½ miles long and offers a chance to discover the architectural, social and artistic history of this stretch of the Thames in the company of fellow SPAB members and enthusiasts.
