Risteard (Dick) UaCroinin BA, MA, MIAI, MAACO

He was responsible for the built heritage of the county including historic buildings, vernacular houses, protected structures and architectural conservation areas in towns and villages. Having studied in UCD and UCG, he worked in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings since the 1980s. In 1986 he formed the Dysert Development Association and using local skills restored Dysert O'Dea Castle, Co. Clare, which has been open to the public since as The Clare Archaeology Centre and Trail.
He has published widely on local history, archaeology, the built environment and placenames of Ireland and In 2014, with his colleague, Martin Breen, compiled “The Castles and Tower Houses of Clare”, published by The National Monuments Service on its website “archaeology.ie”. In conjunction with SPAB Ireland, he organised a building lime training course in August 2018 to repair “An Cabhail Mhór”, one of the few plantation castles in Munster. The three-day event was attended by over 50 participants.    Dick continues to work as a built heritage consultant.
