By invitation of the Jersey Building Preservation Trust, join us to learn about the history and work of SPAB. Hear about the our history, membership and some of the famous buildings we have sought to protect over the last 149 years.

Founded by William Morris in 1877, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) was established in response to the work of Victorian architects whose enthusiasm for harmful restoration caused irreparable damage. Today we encourage excellence in new design to enrich and complement the built historic environment. We train new generations of architectural professionals and building craftspeople to shape this landscape with sensitivity and skill, and play a statutory role as adviser to local planning authorities. 

Speakers 

The talk is presented on behalf of the SPAB by James Innerdale and Libby Watts. James is an accredited architect, historic buildings consultant and SPAB Technical Adviser. Libby is a RIBA Specialist Conservation Architect, director of Liberty Rose Architects and SPAB Education and Training Guardian.

Accessibility 

Step-free access to the venue if from the Weighbridge corridor entrance via a lift to Member’s Room. There is an accessible toilet on the third floor of the building (accessible by lift).
