This month's member skillshare looks at managing the costs of your heritage project. It will be led by member, Chris Mills, an experienced quantity surveyor.

Chris will use the repairs to the Wychbury Monument on the Hagley Hall estate as a case study and will explore the practicalities around contract administration and cost control.

About the speaker: Chris Mills is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 50 years’ experience. He retired in 2022.

Chris has an interest in heritage projects both in a professional capacity and personally, being a member of SPAB, National Trust and Listed Property Owners Club. He has lived in Grade II listed houses in Wrotham for over 20 years.

The projects that Chris has been involved with include:

  • Numerous projects in The Natural History Museum, Kensington (Grade I)
  • Hardwick Hall Derbyshire – renovation of duck decoy and ice house (Grade I)
  • Hagley Hall – renovation of exterior of the Palladian style house, replacement of the mansard roof, rebuilding of the Wychbury obelisk monument, renovation of the historic landscape including the Rotunda and Palladian bridge (Grade I)
  • Houses in London – renovation and refurbishment of large houses in Egerton Crescent, Ladbroke Gardens, Pembridge Crescent, Carlton Hill, Campden Hill Square, Abbey Gardens and others (Grade II)
