NB: This event is now fully booked - we've reached our Zoom capacity. But we'll record the talk and members will be able to access the recording via our online members' area from tomorrow (Friday 25 March).

Our March members' skillshare will be led by member, Katie McAndrew. She'll be talking about her 18 years as a Conservation Officer; how she entered the profession, the role of the Conservation Officer, and working with Buildings at Risk.

About the speaker: Katie has worked in the heritage sector for 21 years and was a Conservation Officer for 18 of those years. Based in local authorities in Cambridgeshire she dealt with historic buildings and historic places largely in a rural context.

She has been involved with all aspects of the local authority heritage protection remit from dealing with applications, addressing buildings at risk to writing conservation area appraisals, and drafting local plan policy.

In 2020 she changed jobs and now works for a surveying firm specialising in building pathology and historic building conservation and now liaising with Conservation Officers from the other side of the fence! Katie is a long-standing member of the SPAB, joining in 1998 while at university.

About the skill-share: Run by members for members, these short and informal online sessions are a great way to learn from the expertise and experience of your fellow historic building enthusiasts. We are really grateful to everyone who has volunteered to lead a session so far. If you are interested in leading a session please get in touch with our membership team: membership[at]spab.org.uk

These sessions are only available to SPAB members, so you will need to log in to the website in order to register. Please get in touch if you don't have a log in set up yet.

IT requirements: Please note that this is an online session and will be held via Zoom. To participate, all you need is an internet connection, and a laptop, computer or phone with the ability to play video and audio.

Accessibility: please contact the SPAB before booking to discuss any special access requirements.
