Event details
3th July 2019
13:00 - 15:00
The tour will give members the opportunity to learn about the medieval hospitium, to visit the SPAB's Old House Project and to see the work being carried out by volunteers at the annual working party. The hospitium was originally built in the late-13th or early-14th century within the Cistercian abbey’s precinct to provide shelter for pilgrims visiting the abbey’s relics on their way to Canterbury. Since the Dissolution this enormous building has been in agricultural use and is now being developed as a venue for events. SPAB staff will introduce members to the Old House Project at St Andrew’s. Dating from the 15th century, St Andrew’s has been a chapel, cottage, village shop and post office. The building has been standing empty for decades and is now under careful repair by the SPAB, its volunteers and experts.
St Andrew’s is 15 minutes’ walk from Boxley Abbey, please do get in touch if you have any accesibility requirements.
