After we and others in the heritage sector wrote to the Welsh Government, it has agreed to reduced funding cuts for heritage organisations in its recent Budget. While the cuts are still a painful 10.5%, this is much less than the 22% originally proposed, and brings the cuts in line with other arts and cultural organisations.

Christopher Catling, Director of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW), wrote: “I am very grateful to SPAB and to everyone else in the heritage sector who wrote to the Culture Minister on our behalf – it was heartwarming to see how much we are loved and appreciated!”

The RCAHMW and others are now asking for the Welsh Government to prevent the sector from being targeted for future cuts via a petition. If it reaches more than 10,000 signatures, it will be considered for a debate in the Senedd.

Want to safeguard the heritage and history of Wales? Sign the petition now.
