The best-selling Old House Handbook has now been completely updated to reflect current best practices and the latest thinking on the techniques and materials used to care for old buildings.

If the popularity of the Old House Handbook is anything to go by, there is an incredible thirst for knowledge about how to care for old buildings. Since it was first published in 2008, this bestseller has helped to guide homeowners, building professionals, craftspeople, and local authority staff working on projects big and small.

Authors Roger Hunt and Marianne Suhr have been busy updating the book to reflect current best practices and the latest thinking on the techniques and materials used to care for old buildings.

As Roger Hunt says, “Our goal with the Old House Handbook was to provide a highly practical approach with simple ‘nuts and bolts’ guidance, based on experience.”

“We were keen to help readers get it right the first time around, rather than have to live with the consequences of potentially irreversible mistakes that prove damaging to both their pockets and the building.”

Much of the book has been completely re-written, with 52 extra pages, a new chapter structure, and around 600 images and illustrations to bring the content to life.

The new edition is a fully integrated companion volume to the recently updated Old House Eco Handbook. Together, the books comprehensively set out the important steps that can be taken not only to repair and maintain old buildings, but to sympathetically retrofit them so that they are sustainable and fit for the future.
