The Dorset Group is returning to the spectacular Pugin Hall this summer following last year’s sell-out visit.

Designed in 1846 by Augustus Pugin, who also designed the interior of the Houses of Parliament, the Hall is the most complete example of Pugin’s domestic architecture.

Originally built for the rector of Rampisham, this Grade I listed building is now in private ownership. Alison Wright, the owner, will kindly guide us around part of the house and explain its design and features. The house is surrounded by four and a half acres of garden, including an orchard, which we’ll also have the chance to explore.

While you’re in the village, you might like to independently visit the Church of St Michael and All Angels, the chancel of which was re-built by Pugin in 1846-7. The church is usually locked but will be open by special arrangement from 1pm to 2.15pm, so you can take a look before our visit begins.

You will need

You will need to wear sturdy shoes for exploring the garden.

How to get there

The address is Pugin Hall, Rampisham, Dorchester DT2 0PU.

If you’re driving, sat nav will take you to within 20 yards of the property. Look for the house with the large chimneys. There will be yellow signs on the front drive. The house is near the centre of the village. Please park to the rear of the house as there is limited parking at the front.

From Dorcheser A37, after 9m turn left to Evershot and follow signs. From Crewkerne A356, take the first left to Rampisham. Pugin Hall is on the left after 1/2m.

If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is Maiden Newton.

Accessibility

There is no step-free access to the property. There are four steps into the garden and one larger step at the back of the orchard and going out to woodland and the river Frome. There is a threshold into the house and we will be on the ground floor only.

The visit includes tea and cake. If you have any dietary requirements please indicate these on the booking form.
