Join the Essex Group on a guided tour of the picturesque Blue Mills in Wickham Bishops, Essex.
We’ll visit Blue Mills, a beautiful timber-framed and weather-boarded water mill on the River Blackwater. The mill still has its 19th century machinery, which was repaired in 1949 but is sadly no longer working.
We’ll also get to explore the adjoining 18th century red brick mill house, with its 19th century additions.
We’ll be shown around the buildings by the current owners, who won the conservation category of the Maldon District Council Design and Conservation Awards Scheme for their work on the mill.
This tranquil site also has extensive grounds over ten acres, including formal gardens, the millpond and an informal nature reserve.

How to get there
If coming by car, you can park at Blue Mills. If coming by public transport, the nearest station is at Witham, about 2.1 miles from Blue Mills.
Accessibility
Please note there is no step-free access on the site. Access to the house and mill is via a number of steps and there are stairs to the upper floors of the house. Access to the upper floors of the mill is via various open wooden staircases, some of which are very steep. There are large open areas of water and various trip hazards in the grounds.
