We are delighted to announce that SPAB Ireland has been awarded a grant of €15,000 from the Heritage Council’s Heritage Sector Support Fund for 2021. The purpose of the funding is to strengthen the heritage sector in Ireland and support organisations in delivering programmes of work that contribute to heritage priorities at a national level.

SPAB Ireland was established in early 2017 by a group of Irish SPAB Scholars and Fellows. It is the newest and fastest growing branch of the SPAB and has fostered an active and friendly community that aims to protect and promote the wonderful national built heritage on the whole island of Ireland.

The Heritage Sector Support Fund grant will be used to support the delivery of our Vernacular Irish Buildings campaign during 2021, which aims to highlight and promote the significance of Ireland’s vernacular built heritage and offer practical advice about how best to understand and care for traditional buildings. The campaign will include a vernacular buildings lecture series, two working parties – one taking place in Tipperary in the Republic of Ireland and the other in Armagh in Northern Ireland – as well as the production of our very first podcast series.

SPAB Ireland is always looking for new volunteers to get involved in activities so don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to take part. Sign up to the SPAB Ireland mailing list to be kept up to date with current opportunities or email ireland@spab.org.uk
