Join the SPAB and the Betjeman Society for a recorded online talk by Professor Frances Spalding CBE (originally held live on 25 March 2021). The presentation will explore the personal friendship and creative collaborations of poet, architectural commentator and broadcaster Sir John Betjeman and artist John Piper. Described as "a marriage of minds, a perfect combination of sympathies" their shared love of  'unfashionable architecture' and the country's landscape coloured both their own work and the Shell Guide travel books on which they worked together from the 1930s - 1950s. 

Frances Spalding CBE is an art historian, critic and biographer specialising in 20th century art, a past editor of The Burlington Magazine and now Emeritus Fellow of Clare Hall,Cambridge. Her many books include John Piper, Myfanwy Piper: Lives in Art (Oxford University Press, 2017).
